Puerto Sotogrande · Since 2011

Breakfast, lunch and long evenings by the port

A family-run restaurant and bar on Plaza de los Naranjos, where the morning starts with coffee in the sun and the afternoon has a habit of turning into dinner.

From the port car park to our terrace

The place

A terrace, a garden and the whole port

We sit on Plaza de los Naranjos, a few steps from the water. There is shade under the parasols, greenery along the edges and, beyond it, the ochre and the masts of Sotogrande.

Come in shorts. Bring the children. Stay longer than you meant to.

A day here

Nine in the morning until half past midnight

The Hairy Lemon is not one thing. It is breakfast, then coffee, then lunch, then a drink that becomes dinner.

Eggs in the sunshine

Eggs Benedict with hollandaise made that morning, a full English, pancakes, açai bowls and juice pressed to order.

A superfood salad of quinoa, feta, avocado and hazelnuts

13:00 Midday

Lunch, lightly

Poke bowls, burrata, superfood salads and a cold glass of something from the terrace bar.

Chilli salted calamari with a soy dipping sauce

17:00 Afternoon

Tapas and shade

Gambas pil pil, croquetas, calamari and a jug of sangria for the middle of the table.

20:00 Evening

Dinner, then one more

Fillet steak, bourbon ribs, homemade pies — and cocktails at the bar for as long as you like.

The food

Cooked properly, served generously

Fusion tapas and sharing platters, poke bowls and salads, pizza and pasta, burgers and curries — alongside the homemade shortcrust pies, lamb shank and beer battered cod that cure the most homesick of our regulars.

The people

The same faces, year after year

The Hairy Lemon is owned by Lorenc and Lizzie, who took over the restaurant in 2011 and bought it a year or so later. Almost everyone else you will meet arrived around the same time and simply never left.

Robert has run the kitchen for more than a decade and Alfonso the floor for just as long. Antonio, Brigita and Marilyn have been part of the management for years. It is the reason the welcome feels the same every time, and the reason the staff tend to know your table before you ask for it.

Our story

Events & celebrations

Good times, big occasions

Birthdays, baby showers, private parties, group dinners and the kind of night people talk about afterwards — in the Bistro, on the Terrace or at the Bar.

Set menus for groups, or party packages built around tapas, canapés and buffets. Kate organises them, and she will put the whole thing together with you.
